Dental Bridges

The Basics

Bridging the Gap

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching artificial teeth to the natural teeth on either side of the gap, called abutment teeth. A false tooth, known as a pontic, fills the space. Bridges come in two types: fixed bridges, which are cemented permanently in place and removable only by a dentist, and removable bridges, which can be taken out for cleaning. Fixed bridges offer the greatest stability.

The Technology

Precision at Every Step

Restored Function

Eat and chew comfortably again, the way your teeth were designed to.

Clearer Speech

Missing teeth can affect the sounds you make—a bridge helps restore clear speech.

Facial Support

Bridges support your lips and cheeks, maintaining your natural facial shape.

Protects Oral Health

Prevents extra strain on surrounding tissues and reduces the gum-disease risk linked to missing teeth.

Keeps Teeth Aligned

Fills the gap so neighboring teeth don't drift out of position.

What to Expect

How a Bridge Is Placed

Preparation

Dr. De Oliveira prepares the abutment teeth on either side of the gap, gently reshaping them to support the bridge.

Impression

A precise impression is taken so your bridge is built to match your bite and your opposing teeth.

Placement

The finished bridge—with crowns supporting the pontic—is fitted and cemented securely in place.

Bridges can be made from porcelain, gold or non-precious alloys, or porcelain bonded to metal, chosen for the right balance of strength and natural appearance in your case.

Considering Your Options

Is a Bridge Right for You—or an Implant?

A bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support, which means reshaping otherwise healthy teeth. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth on its own, without affecting the teeth around it. Both are excellent options depending on your situation, and as a nationally recognized implant expert, Dr. De Oliveira can help you choose the right one.
