Dental Fillings
Do You Need One?
Signs a Filling May Help
Tooth sensitivity or discomfort is often an early sign of decay or a fracture. During your evaluation, Dr. De Oliveira will determine whether a filling is the right fix. Fillings are typically the best solution for:
- Tooth decay and cavities
- Chipped teeth
- Cracked teeth
If you’re feeling sensitivity, don’t wait, early treatment keeps a small problem small.
What to Expect
Placing a Composite Filling
Prepare the Tooth
The tooth is isolated and kept dry, and any decay is gently removed.
Cure & Shape
Each layer is hardened with a curing light, then shaped to look like a natural tooth.
Bond & Fill
A bonding agent is applied, then tooth-colored composite resin is added in layers.
Polish to Match
The filling is smoothed and polished to fit your bite, and blend right in.
Benefits
- Natural, tooth-matched color
- Preserves more natural tooth
- Contains fluoride to help resist decay
- Metal-free and safe
The Modern Choice
Why We Use Tooth-Colored Fillings
Composite resin, a blend of acrylic and powdered glass, is the modern alternative to old metal (amalgam) fillings. It’s shaded to match your natural teeth, contains no metal, and even lets Dr. De Oliveira preserve more of your natural tooth structure with a more conservative preparation.
Know the Difference
When It's More Than a Filling
A filling restores a cavity. But when a tooth has too much damage for a filling yet not enough to need a full crown, a porcelain inlay or onlay is often the ideal middle ground, custom-crafted to restore strength while looking completely natural.
